Family Adventure Trail

This circle offers families with children (above the age of 11 years) independent cycling in fantastic settings, the opportunity to discover the many untouched places while trying out some great activities for the whole family. Starting any day of the week, this is a truly independent programme.

Spend a lovely day in the Westport House, have fun surfing on the beautiful beaches of Louisburg, check out the marine life, try some outdoor activities in the Killary Adventure Centre and discover the Killary Fjord on a catamaran. We provide well-chosen pre-booked accommodation, as well as bikes. The luggage is transferred for you in order to lighten the load. A full itinerary, maps, and suggested options are also part of this action-packed tour.

Duration:		8 days (7 nights)
Tour Dates 2009:		ANY DATE (April - Oct)
Level:		Gentle, some occasional hill, average of 20km daily with shorter and longer options available on most days.
Bicycle:		Touring Bike, children’s bicycles.
Equipment:		Helmets, front handlebar bag, side panniers (if required), water bottles, bicycle repair-kits.
Accommodation:		B&B’s
Meals:		Irish breakfasts, 1 dinner
Transfers:		Luggage transfers, ferry to Inishbofin.
Miscellaneous:		Ticket for Westport House including 2 hours of activities (archery and cannoeing), 2 hours of surfing, a half day of activity in Killary Adventure Centre, ticket for a cruise on the Connemara lady, detailed route notes and maps and a briefing on tour routes.
Meeting Point:		A Killary Tours representative will meet you at your first nights accommodation in Westport.
Departure Point:		You depart from your last night’s accommodation in Leenane. If you need us to organise a taxi to your onward destination we will be happy to assist you.

Price for Adults €859.00 per person sharing
Price for Children €669.00 per person sharing

All prices are in EURO, and based on per person sharing. Per person sharing means two people in one room. Children’s price is based on two adults travelling. Single Room supplement is applied when people require a room for themselves as part of a booking of two or more. We provide children's bikes with gears, and 21 speed-bikes for the adults, (we would advise children to bring their own helmets if possible)

Daily Itinerary

DAY 1 - WESTPORT
Arrive to the wonderful town of Westport (there is direct bus and train service to Westport daily). Warm welcome and chance to settle in. You will be given your route pack and general information to study overnight. If there is time we meet with you to go through the details of the tour with you. Westport is a nice town with lots of restaurants and pubs where you can find music on most evenings.

DAY 2 Today you will be visiting the Westport House. As well as the historical and cultural aspects Westport House & Gardens has to offer. You can become Robin Hood whilst trying out archery or go on a canoeing trip across the lake. There are also a wide range of fun attractions and facilities available. You stay in Westport again tonight.

DAY 3 Today you will be cycling along Clew Bay to the village of Louisburgh, where you will stay for the next two nights. If you wish to challenge yourselves along the way, you can climb to the top of Croagh Patrick - Ireland's Holy Mountain climb (750m to the top; 4-5 hours). This is quite a tough climb, but the views from the top is fantastic. The dinner is your own choice in the village.

DAY 4 Head to the beautiful Carrowniskey Strand, where you will try out surfing today. You will discover the pleasure of a wonderful surfing experience on one of the best surfing beaches in Ireland. After surfing you can go for a little cycle to discover the Louisburgh area more. Dinner is your own choice.

DAY 5 Leaving Louisburgh your cycle will bring you to Leenane (30km) via Delphi Valley. The Delphi Valley is a beautiful place surrounded by mountains and deep blue lakes. Leenane village is wonderfully located at the mouth of the Killary Harbour, which is Ireland's only fjord. You are staying tonight in a B&B in the village. Dinner is your own choice tonight.

DAY 6 Head to Killary Adventure Centre in the morning, 5km from Leenane village. You will have a half a day of activities in the centre, the session being from 10am to 1pm. The morning will be full of challenges while trying out high ropes or climbing tower (possibility to try out our brand new activity: the Giant Swing!!). After the activities you will cycle to the “Connemara Lady” catamaran, which will take you on a cruise on the Killary Fjord. After the cruise return to your B&B and dinner is your own choice.

DAY 7 Today you will be transferred to a scuba diving centre. The diving is undertaken in a private, sheltered cove so it is a perfect opportunity for beginners to get up close and personal with the wealth of marine life. You will be diving for half a day. You will be transferred back to your B&B in Leenane and dinner is your own choice.

DAY 8 Breakfast, followed by farewell and departure!
